Less than 24 hours after defeating the Andress Eagles in the quarter-regional round of the playoffs, the  El Paso High girls soccer team had its playoff run come to a halt. The Tigers were forced to forfeit their seed due to having an ineligible player on the team for that game.

El Paso had defeated Andress 5-1 on the night of April 4 to advance into the 1-5A regional semi-final and face Aledo in Wichita Falls tonight.

“It’s sad, it’s hurtful, it’s painful for all of us. It’s a life lesson and there’s nothing you can do about it. The only thing you can do is keep moving forward,” sophomore, Adriana Lopez said. “As a captain, I have to be a leader and push my players up and we’re ready for next year.”

The Tigers had a deep playoff run the previous season with aspirations to compete for a state title in 2017.

The players showed grace after finding the outcome saying it’s an experience they can build from.

“If anything it’ll just show us that we have to focus on not just practices and what goes on the field, but also what’s going on in the classroom,” sophomore, Rachel Olivarez said.

The Tigers are expected to have many of their varsity members return for the 2017-18 season.

Andress will now replace the Tigers in the playoffs.

“We had a really good and successful season, we still won that game, but we just wish Andress the best and hope they succeed,” Olivarez said.
